Hi Bryan,
when i had it apart i could not feel anything wrong with the bearing. I was also spinning the wheel to hear any noise, but nothing. But yes it could be that the bearing has had and extra wearing , i think this could happen if you have the belt too tight. I have it above the top ring on the tool, just so it moves.
I have done the same with the hose on an old two stroke machine and it still is in good working condition after 3 years.
